Dry Needling
Western medical acupuncture, also known as dry needling, involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into the body. Unlike traditional Chinese acupuncture, it does not rely on chakras and meridians.
what To Expect
During an osteopathic appointment, a session typically lasts for 10-15 minutes, allowing the needles to do their job. This technique is beneficial in reducing pain and improving function by promoting blood flow to the area.
The fresh blood, rich in nutrients, helps heal not only muscles but also tendons and joints. The procedure also helps relax the muscles and the body, which is significant since stress can worsen pain. If nodes and trigger points are present, the needles can also be used to treat them. The needles are so thin that most people do not feel them going in. However, the muscle may occasionally experience a neuromuscular reaction, which can feel intense but quickly fade away.
